Sources of oxygen

The main property of the cornea is transparency and ability to transmit light. A normal cornea has no blood vessels. Usually it receives oxygen directly from the air and from the tear fluid by getting wet during blinking. When eyelids are closed oxygen reaches the cornea through the blood vessels of the conjunctiva, capillaries of the limbal zone and from moisture of the anterior chamber of the eye, that’s why closed eye receives three times less oxygen than opened one. Ordinary SofLens Toric Contact Lenses from WebEyeCare are a kind of a barrier to the direct oxygen air flow to the eye. In this case the oxygen supply may occur in two ways: oxygen passes during the exchange of tear fluid between the lens and the eye during blinking or oxygen passes directly through the material of contact lenses.
