What causes female sexual dysfunction?
Some of the common causes of female sexual dysfunction comprise physical, psychological, hormonal, and social factors. Physical conditions that can cause female sexual dysfunction include urinary or bowel difficulties, pelvic surgery, fatigue, headaches, and neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis. Lower oestrogen and testosterone levels can lead to changes in genital tissues and response to sexual stimulation. This can also cause reduction in lubrication during sexual intercourse and thinning of vaginal lining. As a result, women may have painful sexual intercourse and problems reaching orgasm. Menopause is one of the main factors associated with female sexual dysfunction as it causes hormonal imbalance. When the ovaries are surgically removed, menopause sets in before time, causing female libido to drop. Psychological factors such as depression, anxiety, or long-term stress can cause female sexual dysfunction. Relationship problems with partner can also have similar effects.
